New York Countdown

As I write this I’m sitting in bed smoking a cigarette. I don’t know why, but I always feel like such a rebel when I do this. Not that I have anything to rebel against. Maybe I rebel against my old self? That prudish, scared little boy who would have never dared to take the slightest risk. But I’ve grown in the past few years. Some of my last “young” years. I’m pushing 23 which means I have 2 years or so, to be the biggest risk taker I can be.

What is risk anyway? Is it when you dare yourself just because? Or is it for that small chance of great reward? I do it for both reasons. Sometimes it’s fun to do something stupid irregardless of the consequences.

Ah, it was a few years ago when I was fresh out of highschool that I made my first real risk. I skipped school and cashed in my financial aid to fly to New York City. It was my first real impulse. I honestly consider it to be the day I was born.

Since I was never on my own before then, it was my personal way of shoving reality down my throat. I won’t go ino the gritty details, but I wasn’t ready for the big city. What did I expect anyway? That New York was going to open its arms out wide for me?

I love New York unconditionally, but New York on the other hand loves me conditionally. The condition is that I grow up and bring something to the table. It’s almost as if New York is a God, and to appease it, I need something to offer.

Maybe I gave up to fast, but New York chewed me up and spit me out. But that just motivates me to find my footing again. As soon as I get back, I know it’ll be almost like a reunion with the city. I’ll get a kiss kiss on each cheek, a 12 dollar pack of Camel’s and a broccoli and cheese soup from Au Bon Pain!

This is a really long post. It should be an “about me” because this is the first time I’ve thought about me in a while. Also, I thought JustFedTheModels needed a little personality.

Who is Modelistic? That’s my journey. If I’m going to have an alter ego, it better be entertaining! This is the first step on my highway to New York…Fashion Week? Ooh that’s big words coming from a small fry hahah!!!

Roberto Cavalli Review Coming Soon

Our favorite Gucci Gals, Natasha Poly and Lily Donaldson, look utterly stunning in Cavalli Fall 2012 backstage.

I’ll be reviewing soon. I may be a slow reviewer since the show was last month, but I like to take my time when it comes to designers I love, because they deserve that at the very least. They may not care, but I always will.

So stay tuned!

Gucci Fall 2012/13

The opening look made me smile soo big. I don’t know if it was Kasia Strauss or the glasses she was wearing, but I sure as hell was smiling. After the first look it was curious seeing the show. It looked almost like an experiment of Frida’s for this season. There was some Gucci in there, but there was something more. Not an edge, but a softness and lush feeling throughout. The jacquards and the velvets were so beautiful.

And it’s been a while since we’ve seen evening gowns on the Gucci runway.

I was a little worried about the fit in the pants. As beautiful as the prints were, they might have been a little too slouchy, especially if you’re not a gazelle height wise. I preferred the floor length skirts. They gave the same effect as the pants, but gave a much more beautiful silhouette versus the “baggy pant look”.

This was a wonderfully dark collection. It was like women of the night who skulk around in dark alleys(glamorous alleys at that) just to look beautiful and lure in wealthy men. I really loved the collection, it’s something new for Gucci. I think Frida’s starting to sit comfortably at Gucci, because she’s changing her own DNA for the house.

Chanel Couture Spring/Summer 2012

This season the stage for the show was a business class airplane. It reminded me of Britney Spears’ Toxic video. From watching the show I noticed that the collection was a mixture of blues, blacks and silvers. There was also some dip dye thrown in there.

The things I loved about the collection were the shoes. They were super simple, but had 3 straps on the ankles, which I thought were really cute. I thought the beaded leggings were very charming. Also, the bead work was really amazing. Very intricate and perfectly placed. But the 20′s inspired dresses were the stand out for me. Very Chanel, yet modern with a flash of upper back skin. Made it a bit younger and slightly unexpected. I say slightly because the show had a few problems.

For one, black, blue and silver are by far my favorite colors. But in this show they were soo washed out. The blue carpet of the set made the blue garments look dumpy and didn’t allow the clothing to stand out. There was just something lacking. It’s almost as if the collection was meant to blend into the environment. As if Haute Couture was turning into an everyday type thing. Possibly the over accessibility of the fashion industry?

By far this was the weakest Haute Couture show from Chanel. I don’t know if it was the set, but it was lackluster. It just didn’t flow smoothly and the black section was too much for Spring. It was too much bulk for the coming months. The Pre-Fall collection had more spunk. It felt like a real show…this wasn’t the best that Karl can do.

Dior Pre-Fall 2012

I thought the collection was very safe. Almost the complete polar opposite of John Galliano. But at the same time I think its beautiful. Its simple yet so clean and real. I usually edit the photos to give it an extra kick, but they were shot so beautifully I didnt want to ruin the softness of it. Fashion can get very hard edged at times, which is great, but sometimes we all want something a little on the soft side. It was a little refreshing to see a story here. It just looks like a fabulous girl who lives in a palace and feels the need to dress up constantly. Shes a younger Dior girl, which the house might need with the absence of Galliano. Very charming and cute collection. I dont know if shes even on the radar right now, but I can see Kiera Knightly in all these pieces. Im not sure if its the models similar hair to Keira in the Chanel fragrance commercial, but the light, unpretentious mood reminds me of her.

Somarta Spring 2012

The main thing I had a problem with was the lack of color…I meant the models, not the clothes. Youd think that fashion week in Japan would inspire them to use Japanese models. But Ill talk about that more in another post.

This collection was inspired by falcons and thunderbirds, and I was pleasantly surprised that there wasnt a feather in sight. The color palette consisted of blacks, steel grays, yellows and reds. I loved the fishnet body suits. They made such a statement and was so beautiful the way it hugged the body. But at the same time, that silhouette doesnt work for every woman. If youre a little weary about showing all the goods, try to cover it with a fabulous statement jacket, preferably in silver to give it that pop without having to pop your goodies out. But if the bodysuits too much for you, opt for the leggings. They flatter any size and can be worn just as chic.

I really like how the collection evoked birds without being literal and costumey. The points on the back of the jackets reminded me of beaks and the reds reminded me of plumage, without having to be made of it.

The dresses and skirts are very geometrical…reminded me of a fashion school capsule collection. Also they were a little large in the hips which means if you have an ass then these skirts might exaggerate them.

Definitely some great statement pieces for this next season.

Pictures coming soon since Im working from my phone.

Arizona

Who is Arizona Muse? And why?

That’s what I found myself asking as I saw her in ads ranging from Louis Vuitton to Fendi. According to my research, she seems to be the biggest deal in modeling at the moment. She’s added multiple Vogue covers to her repertoire, including three covers of Australian Vogue. She also walked in over 60 shows this spring. So rest assured, Arizona is going to remain a fixture in the next few years to come. Unless it’s true that the brightest starts burn out the fastest? Some of her recent work includes the cover of Korean Vogue January 2012 and British Vogue February 2012 and Isabel Marant’s Spring Ad Campaign. I’m sure there’s more work to come soon. I’m just not sure if I’m ready to jump on the Arizona Muse bandwagon yet. She’s already jumped from non existent to #5 on Models.com. I think it’s gonna take time for this girl to grow on me. I mean she’s already grown on all the designers and Freja Beha Erichsen…Rumored to be together. If they are, then I’ll wave my white flag and she’ll be one of my favorites. Everyone loves a good lipstick lesbian.

Balmain Spring 2012 Directed by Inez and Vinoodh

Top Model Abbey Lee Kershaw, her boyfriend Matthew Hutchinson and their band ‘Our Mountain,’ are featured wearing the new diffusion line ‘Pierre Balmain.’ It’s about 90% cheaper than Balmain.
I’ve always loved Balmain. The ‘I don’t give a shit, effortless rock-chic’ vibe it gives off. To put it simply, it’s really cool. But, as much as I’d like to, I can’t seem to save enough money to fund a small fortune of $2,000 t-shirts and $9,000 jeans. I know it’s not a great excuse, but I have bills…So the affordability of the new line means I need to move my ass and get it before it’s gone.
